Cungelella Art

“Every piece holds a voice—celebrating old ways, new visions, and the spirit of Aboriginal artistry.”

Based in Mount Isa, Queensland, Cungelella Art is an Aboriginal-owned collective of Kalkadoon women artists sharing their culture through vibrant contemporary artworks. Drawing inspiration from Country, family, and community, the collective blends traditional Aboriginal designs and storytelling with bold, modern colour palettes that reflect the land, skies, and spirit of the Kalkadoon people.

Each piece is created with authenticity and deep cultural meaning, showcasing intergenerational knowledge passed down through women. What began as a creative outlet has grown into a thriving art and design business that brings Aboriginal culture into homes across Australia and beyond.

Cungelella Art’s unique designs have caught the attention of major retailers and media, leading to exciting collaborations with brands such as Adairs, Twoobs, Target Australia, Infamous Swim, and Salty Aura. Their artwork was also featured on The Block, bringing Indigenous art to national television audiences.

As proud Indigenous business owners, the Cungelella Art team continues to grow their impact, working with ethical suppliers and contributing to the visibility and economic empowerment of Aboriginal women artists. Every artwork is more than a design—it is a story, a legacy, and a celebration of culture.

Glenda McCulloch

Glenda McCulloch – Artist & Founder, Cungelella Art
Glenda McCulloch is a proud Kalkadoon woman and the founder of Cungelella Art, based in Mount Isa, Queensland. She began painting in 2019 during her maternity leave as a way to reconnect with her culture and express the beauty of her homelands. Inspired by the rugged landscapes of Kalkatungu Country—its red earth, spinifex hills, and soft desert sunsets—Glenda combines traditional Aboriginal designs with bold, contemporary colour palettes.

Her work is deeply rooted in family and culture, with her sisters joining her on the journey to create Cungelella Art. Together, they’ve grown from a small backyard studio into a nationally recognised collective. Glenda’s art has been featured in high-profile collaborations and continues to share the stories, strength, and spirit of the Kalkadoon people.
